Аннотация: We propose a method for synthesizing ultra-wideband pulses using a vector network analyzer and a wideband transceiving log-periodic antenna. The transfer characteristic of the antenna-feeder transmission line of the system is described by the model of a two-port network whose S-matrix elements are calibrated for at least two heights of the antenna above the reflecting surface (metal plate). The proposed method of calibrating the transfer characteristic of a log-periodic antenna allows one to minimize the amplitude- and phase-frequency distortions, which are introduced to the sensing pulse by the antenna. Employing the developed method, we experimentally demonstrate a possibility of synthesizing an ultra-wideband pulse with a duration of 0.46 ns at the level of half amplitude of the envelope (when the pulse contains several field oscillations) using a log-periodic antenna with a passband of 1.36 to 4.88 GHz (at the level −10 dB). This method is specially developed for creating miniature radar systems using portable vector network analyzers and log-periodic antennas for applications to remote sensing of an underlying surface by ultra-wideband pulses from small-size unmanned aerial vehicles.

Аннотация: The propagation of light through a hybrid-aligned nematic layer with a surface disclination line is investigated in a pulsed magnetic field. The experimental dependences of light intensity I on time t accompanied by interference oscillations are presented. The shift and expansion of the interference extrema as functions of the magnetic field pulse length during the reaction are shown. The I (t) dependence for the relaxation process is calculated with allowance for scattering. The calculated I (t) dependence agrees well with the experimental dependence over the entire hybrid-aligned nematic layer, except for the surface layer.

Аннотация: The characteristics of a frequency doubler on a resonant microstrip structure with a thin magnetic film were studied theoretically. The electrodynamic calculation of the structure was performed within the quasi-static approximation. Nonlinear response of film magnetization was calculated taking into account the second-order terms in the Landau-Lifshitz equation. The frequency response of the microstrip resonator was calculated. It was shown that due to the use of the resonant circuit, high efficiency of the input signal energy conversion into the output signal at a doubled frequency was achieved. The optimal values of the magnitude and direction of an external static magnetic field, which ensure the maximum output power at a doubled frequency, were determined.

Аннотация: Charge transfer plasmons (CTPs) that occur in different topology and dimensionality arrays of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) linked by narrow molecular bridges are studied. The occurrence of CTPs in such arrays is related to the ballistic motion of electrons in thin linkers with the conductivity that is purely imaginary, in contrast to the case of conventional CTPs, where metallic NPs are linked by thick bridges with the real optical conductivity caused by carrier scattering. An original hybrid model for describing the CTPs with such linkers has been further developed. For different NP arrays, either a general analytical expression or a numerical solution has been obtained for the CTP frequencies. It has been shown that the CTP frequencies lie in the IR spectral range and depend on both the linker conductivity and the system geometry. It is found that the electron currents of plasmon oscillations correspond to minor charge displacements of only few electrons. It has been established that the interaction of the CTPs with an external electromagnetic field strongly depends on the symmetry of the electron currents in the linkers, which, in turn, are fully governed by the symmetry of the investigated system. The extended model and the analytical expressions for the CTPs frequencies have been compared with the conventional finite difference time domain simulations. It is argued that applications of this novel type of plasmon may have wide ramifications in the area of chemical sensing.

Аннотация: Cluster perturbation theory is applied to the two-dimensional Hubbard t - t' - t '' - U model to obtain doping and temperature-dependent electronic spectral function with 4 x 4 and 12-site clusters. It is shown that evolution of the pseudogap and electronic dispersion with doping and temperature is similar and in both cases it is significantly influenced by spin-spin short-range correlations. When short-range magnetic order is weakened by doping or temperature and Hubbard-I-like electronic dispersion becomes more pronounced, the Fermi arc turns into a large Fermi surface and the pseudogap closes. It is demonstrated how static spin correlations impact the overall dispersion's shape and how accounting for dynamic contributions leads to momentum-dependent spectral weight at the Fermi surface and broadening effects.

Аннотация: The method of numerical micromagnetic simulation was used to study the magnetization dynamics of a thin film with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy during ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) excitation in it on the local sites by a linearly polarized high-frequency magnetic field emitted from the 1 mm opening in the metallic screen of the transmission line. It was established that non-uniformities of demagnetizing fields emerging near the film edges lead not only to the change in the FMR field, but also to the change in the value and direction of the uniaxial anisotropy field. The distribution of non-uniformities of the magnetic anisotropy characteristics over the area of 60 nm thick permalloy film that was measured on the scanning FMR spectrometer agrees well with the micromagnetic simulation results. Demagnetizing fields were proved to be the main cause for the edge effects in magnetic films.

Аннотация: The method of searching for the profiles of the gradient dependence of the material parameters of matter on the coordinates that allow the exact solution of wave equations, developed previously for electromagnetic and elastic waves, was generalized to spin waves in gradient ferromagnets. Such profiles were found and exact solutions of the wave equations for a ferromagnet with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy β(z) or exchange α(z) varying in space were obtained. The obtained solutions were used to develop the theory of spin-wave resonance in gradient thin magnetic films. The dependences of the eigenfunctions mn(z), the frequencies of the discrete spectrum ωn, and the high-frequency susceptibility χn on the number of spectral levels n were found. The cardinal differences between the spin-wave spectra of films with gradients β(z) and α(z) are shown. The variable anisotropy β(z) changes the shape of the energy potential of the magnetic film and leads to a change in the discrete spectrum for frequencies ωn(n) lower than the frequency of the gradient potential well or potential barrier ωc. The variable exchange α(z) does not change the shape of the energy potential. Spin-wave oscillations occur in a rectangular potential well created by the surfaces of the film, regardless of profile α(z). The discrete frequency spectrum ωn(n) is quadratic on n, or has negligible deviations from the quadratic, for all n. An analytical expression for the effective exchange parameter is obtained. Exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation with spatially dependent effective mass m(z) were found for the profile of m(z) inverse to the function of α(z).

Аннотация: A new phenomenological model is proposed to describe the evolution of the Fermi surface (FS) in a wide range of dopings. It reproduces the key features of the cuprates in the underdoped phase above the superconducting temperature Tc. It is shown that the explicit accounting of strong electron correlation in the framework of the t−J model taken in complementary to the translational symmetry breaking induced by the charge density wave (CDW) gives rise to the Fermi surface reconstruction (FSR) into small electron pockets. While the strong Coulomb repulsion leads to an emergence of the arclike Fermi surface in the pseudogap (PG) phase, the Bragg reflection on the boundaries of the reduced Brillouin zone (BZ) opens up a possibility to close the quasiparticle orbits. Direct calculation of the FS properties allows us to unveil the scenario of the experimentally observed transition to the CDW phase that sets in at the doping level δ≈0.08 and is accompanied by a divergence of the carriers effective mass and the sign reversals of the Hall and Seebeck coefficients.

When the tilt is applied, the system exhibits a sequence of topological phase transitions reflected in an abrupt change of the eigenstates. It is demonstrated that these topological phase transitions can be easily detected in a laboratory experiment by observing Bloch oscillations of cold atoms.

Аннотация: The specific features of magnetization in antiferromagnetic semimetals with a low charge carrier density on a triangular lattice in a high magnetic field are studied. It is demonstrated that the well-known plateau in the magnetic field dependence of the magnetization manifesting itself in the subsystem of localized S = 1/2 spins is actually not strictly horizontal but has a slight positive slope. It is found that an abrupt change in the frequency of quantum oscillations of the magnetization in the itinerant subsystem should be observed at the magnetic field values corresponding to the edges of this plateau owing to the strong s-d(f) exchange coupling.

Аннотация: We study the frequency doubling in a quadratic nonlinear photonic crystal consisting of periodically poled structures mediated by uniform layers with random lengths. These structures can be formed by new local impact methods for ferroelectric crystal structuring. The statistical frequency doubling theory is developed for such structures. The effect of the number of random layers and variation in their thicknesses on the second-harmonic conversion efficiency is clarified. It is demonstrated that a proper choice of the intermediate layer thickness can enhance or suppress the conversion efficiency. A new type of the Makerfringes-like second-harmonic intensity oscillations is predicted. © 2017 Optical Society of America.

Аннотация: We analyzemicroscopic models of the particle source or sink which consist of a one- or two-site Bose-Hubbard model (the system) weakly coupled to amany-site Bose-Hubbard model (the reservoir). Assuming unequal filling factors for the system and reservoir, we numerically study equilibration dynamics and compare it with the solution of the master equation on the reduced density matrix of the system. Necessary conditions for the validity of the master equation approach are formulated.

Аннотация: We consider light-induced binding and motion of dielectric microparticles in an optical waveguide that gives rise to a backaction effect such as light transmission oscillating with time. Modeling the particles by dielectric slabs allows us to solve the problem analytically and obtain a rich variety of dynamical regimes both for Newtonian and damped motion. This variety is clearly reflected in temporal oscillations of the light transmission. The characteristic frequencies of the oscillations are within the ultrasound range of the order of 105 kHz for micron-size particles and injected power of the order of 100mW. In addition, we consider dynamics of a dielectric particle, driven by light propagating inside a Fabry-Perot resonator. These phenomena pave a way for optical driving and monitoring of the motion of particles in waveguides and resonators.

Аннотация: We investigate the optical transmission of a monochromatic laser beam passing through an individual domain of a nematic liquid crystal formed by the polycarbonate surface. The domain has the radial orientation structure with a disclination line on the polymer surface, which gradually transforms to "pseudoplanar" alignment at the coherence distance ? from the surface. The dependence of the optical transmittance on an electric field applied to the domain are different at various light polarization directions relative to the disclination lines and, in the absence of an analyzer, are accompanied by interference oscillations. To explain the results obtained, a domain is considered to be a gradient lens with the refractive index variable in the plane perpendicular to the laser beam and the resulting deflecting effect that was collected at the beam path through the liquid crystal layer. © 2016 Optical Society of America.
