Аннотация:
Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a
bound
state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. The resonant anomalies of the Hall resistance are found in a weak magnetic field. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)00412-0].

The transmission of a TE microwave field with a frequency omega through Gamma, T, and X waveguide junctions filled with a ferromagnetic is considered. These junctions are known to have
bound
states with below-cutoff frequencies. A probing microwave radiation with a frequency Omega applied to the scattering region generates magnetic oscillations with frequencies omega + n Omega (where n = 0, +/-1, +/-2, ...), which resonantly combine with the
bound
waveguide states. This effect provides for a new method of studying
bound

Аннотация:
We study
bound
states of the two-dimensional Helmholtz equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in an open geometry given by two straight leads of the same width which cross at an angle theta. Such a four-terminal junction with a tunable theta can realized experimentally if a right-angle structure is filled by a ferrite. It is known that for theta=90degrees there is one proper
bound
state and one eigenvalue embedded in the continuum. We show that the number of eigenvalues becomes larger with increasing asymmetry and the
bound
-state energies are increasing as functions of theta in the interval (0,90degrees). Moreover, states which are sufficiently strongly
bound
exist in pairs with a small energy difference and opposite parities. Finally, we discuss how the
bound
states transform with increasing theta into quasibound states with a complex wave vector.

Аннотация:
Using the formalism of the effective Hamiltonian, we consider
bound
states in a continuum (BIC). They are nonhermitian effective Hamiltonian eigenstates that have real eigenvalues. It is shown that BICs are orthogonal to open channels of the leads, i.e., disconnected from the continuum. As a result, BICs can be superposed to a transport solution with an arbitrary coefficient and exist in a propagation band. The one-dimensional Aharonov-Bohm rings that are opened by attaching single-channel leads to them allow exact consideration of BICs. BICs occur at discrete values of the energy and magnetic flux; however, it's realization strongly depends on the way to the BIC point.

Аннотация:
We show the existence of
bound
states in the continuum (BICs) in quantum billiards (QBs) that are opened by attaching single-channel leads to them. They may be observed by varying an external parameter continuously, e.g., the shape of the QB. At some values of the parameter, resonance states with vanishing decay width (the BICs) occur. They are localized almost completely in the interior of the closed system. The phenomenon is shown analytically to exist in the simplest case of a two level QB and is complemented by numerical calculations for a real QB.

We consider numerically the L-, T-, and X-shaped elastic waveguides with the Dirichlet boundary conditions for in-plane deformations (displacements) which obey the vectorial Navier-Cauchy equation. In the X-shaped waveguide we show the existence of a doubly degenerate
bound
state with frequency below the first symmetrical cutoff frequency, which belongs to the two-dimensional irreducible representation E of symmetry group C-4v. Moreover the next
bound
state is below the next antisymmetric cutoff frequency. This
bound
state belongs to the irreducible representation A(2). The T-shaped waveguide has only one
bound
state while the L-shaped one has no
bound
states.

A
bound
state in a continuum (BIC) might appear in open quantum dots for the variation in the dot's shape. By means of the equations of motion of the Green's functions, we investigate the effect of strong intradot Coulomb interactions on that phenomenon within the framework of(he impurity Anderson model. The equation that the imaginary part of the poles of the Green's function equals zero yields the condition for BICs. As a result, we show that the Coulomb interactions replicate the single-electron BICs into two-electron ones.

Аннотация:
Photonic crystal with defect layer forms directed continuum for electromagnetic waves. Defect rods in the vicinity of the defect layer interact with the continuum and give rise to scattering of ingoing waves. We derive quantum-mechanical analog of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the open system with complex eigenvalues, which describes a scattering of electromagnetic waves by the defect rods. In this formalism a
bound
state in the continuum (BIC) can be easily found by the condition that one of the complex eigenvalues becomes real for variation of dielectric constant of the defect rods. We numerically find BICs with discrete frequencies belong to the continuum for different arrangements of the defects and show that they are localized around the defects.

We consider the transmission through a nonlinear media in the framework of a two-level nonlinear Fano-Anderson model. The model is realized in photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two off-channel defects with the instantaneous Kerr-type nonlinearity. We reveal a resonance and argue that it is a result of excitement of
bound
state in the continuum (BSC) by transmitted wave. The resonance induced by BSC is located at the energy of BSC with a width proportional to the amplitude of incident wave. The BSC exists at any distance between energy levels of the two-level nonlinear Fano-Anderson model that is fundamentally different from the linear case.

Two off-channel nonlinear defects coupled to the photonic waveguide constitute the Fabry-Perot interfer-ometer (FPR). The defects are made from a Kerr-like nonlinear material. For the linear case such a FPR can support the
bound
states in the form of standing waves between the defects if the distance between them is quantized. For the nonlinear case the
bound
states appear for arbitrary distance between the defects however for an quantized electromagnetic intensity. For the transmission through FPR we reveal new resonances and show these are a result of coupling of the
bound
states with incident wave because of nonlinearity of the defects. The resonances are spaced at the eigen frequencies of
bound
states.

We consider a Fabry-Perot resonator (FPR) comprised of two off-channel nonlinear defects coupled to the photonic waveguide. For the linear case FPR can support
bound
states in the form of standing waves between the defects if a distance between them is quantized. For the nonlinear case the
bound
states appear for arbitrary distance between the defects if electromagnetic intensity is quantized. For transmission through the FPR we reveal additional resonances which are the result of coupling of incident wave with the
bound
states because of nonlinearity of the defects. The resonances are spaced at the eigenfrequencies of
bound
states with a width proportional to the input amplitude. The theory of the FPR based on the simple Wang and Fan model [Phys. Rev. E 68, 066616 (2003)] is complemented by the tight-binding one. The results for the transmission and
bound
states in these models agree with computations in real two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two off-channel defects fabricated from a Kerr-type material.
