Аннотация:
We use the Monte Carlo method to compute the number of trees with n edges in the Eden model on d-dimensional simple cubic lattices for d = 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10. We compare these numbers with the exact data derived by the enumeration method up to n = 12 on the square lattice and up to n = 10 on the cubic lattice. We find that for d greater than or equal to 3, the computed values of the growth parameter for trees agree with the values that we derived earlier by the expansion in inverse powers of 2d - 1.

Аннотация:
We consider a transmission through the potential relief created by a split gate constriction (quantum point contact). Simultaneously, dc and ac voltages V-up(t)=V-0+V-1 cos omega t and V-dw(t)=V-0+V-1 cos(omega t+theta) are applied to the gates. We show numerically that the in-phase ac voltages (theta=0) smear the conductance steps of the stationary conductance, while the antiphase ac voltages (theta=pi) only shift the conductance steps. Moreover, computation of currents in probing wires connected cross to the
time
-periodic quantum point contact reveals a net current for theta not equal 0,pi. This implies that the Schrodinger equation described by the electron transport under the effect of the
time
-periodic long electrodes is equivalent to the transmission in the crossed effective magnetic and electric fields, where the in-plane magnetic field b similar to theta is directed along the transport axis and the electric field e similar to omega is directed perpendicular to the plane of electron transport. Then the vector exb gives rise to the galvanomagnetic current directed cross to the electron transport.

Аннотация:
Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a bound state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. The resonant anomalies of the Hall resistance are found in a weak magnetic field. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)00412-0].

Аннотация:
Singular points of the autocorrelation function on the imaginary
time
axis that is averaged over the location of spins in the magnetically dilute spin lattice with isotropic spin-spin interaction at a high temperature have been studied. For the autocorrelation function in the approximation of the self-consistent fluctuating local field, nonlinear integral equations have been proposed which reflect the separation of the inhomogeneous spin systems into close spins and other spins. The coordinates of the nearest singular points have been determined in terms of the radius of convergence of the expansion in powers of
time
, the coefficients of which have been calculated from recurrence equations. It has been shown that the coordinates of singular points and, consequently, the wings of the autocorrelation function spectrum at strong magnetic dilution are determined by the modulation of the local field by the nearest pairs of spins leading to its logarithmic concentration dependence.

Аннотация:
Singular points of spin autocorrelation functions on the imaginary
time
axis, which determine the arguments of exponential high-frequency asymptotic behaviors, have been analyzed. It has been shown that randomly distributed inhomogeneous magnetic fields expand the wings of spectra of autocorrelation functions and, thereby, intensify the heating of a system subjected to variable magnetic fields, which are used to create effective Hamiltonians or at the saturation of inhomogeneously broadened EPR lines.

We consider Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in a mesoscopic semiconductor ring threaded by both a constant magnetic flux and a
time
-dependent, resonant magnetic field with one or two frequencies. Working in the ballistic regime, we establish that the theory of ''quantum nonlinear resonance'' applies, and thus that this system represents a possible solid-state realization of ''quantum nonlinear resonance'' and ''quantum chaos.'' In particular, we investigate the behavior of the
time
-averaged electron energy at zero temperature in the regimes of (i) an isolated quantum nonlinear resonance and (ii) the transition to quantum chaos, when two quantum nonlinear resonances overlap. The
time
-averaged energy exhibits sharp resonant behavior as a function of the applied constant magnetic flux, and has a staircase dependence on the amplitude of the external
time
-dependent field. In the chaotic regime, the resonant behavior exhibits complex structure as a function of flux and frequency. We compare and contrast the quantum chaos expected in these mesoscopic ''solid-state atoms'' with that observed in Rydberg atoms in microwave fields, and discuss the prospects for experimental observation of the effects we predict.

Аннотация:
We study a resistively shunted semiconductor superlattice subject to a high-frequency electric field. Using a balance equation approach that incorporates the influence of the electric circuit, we determine numerically a range of amplitude and frequency of the ac field for which a de bias and current are generated spontaneously and show that this region is likely accessible to current experiments. Our simulations reveal that the Bloch frequency corresponding to the spontaneous de bias is approximately an integer multiple of the ac field frequency.

We consider the process of resonant electron tunneling through a double-barrier potential, taking into account nonlinear dynamical effects generated by charge accumulation in the interbarrier space. We use the perturbation approach of Davydov and Ermakov, which was developed for investigating intrinsic bistability in resonant tunneling. For incoming electron flow, which is modulated slowly in
time
, we show that the resulting nonlinear dynamics can become chaotic, with the chaos described (because of the open nature of the system) by a strange attractor. We determine the conditions for the existence of this strange attractor and estimate characteristic experimental parameters for its observation.

Аннотация:
In the Eden model, we investigate how the tree growth parameter depends on the space dimension d for face-centered hypercubic lattices. We find the first three terms of the 1/d-expansion for this parameter directly from the generating function without calculating the number of trees because the growth parameter is the reciprocal coordinate of the singular point of the tree generating function. The same growth parameter was calculated by computer experiment where the ratios between the numbers of trees without intersections and trees without restrictions in the dimensions 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 were estimated by the Monte Carlo method on face-centered cubic lattices. The results of the two methods agree well. Comparing with the previously performed computer experiment for simple hypercubic lattices, we observe that the values of the singular exponents for the tree generating functions are close for two different types of lattices.

X-ray transient absorption spectra (XTAS) of molecules are theoretically investigated in a femtosecond x-ray pump and continuous-wave (cw) infrared (IR)-control scenario. The scheme is exemplified by a CO molecule resonantly pumped into carbon and oxygen core-excited 1s→π∗ states by a weak femtosecond x-ray pulse, while dynamic Stark shifts are induced by the cw IR-control radiation. As a result, significant shoulder structures appear in XTAS showing strong dependence on the phase of IR radiation relative to the envelope of the x-ray pulse. Due to a significant difference in the frequencies of the two pulses, the present XTAS scheme provides much clear interpretation of the dynamic Stark effects as compared to the attosecond UV transient absorption scenario. Within the suggested two-level model, where the total spectrum is decomposed as incoherent superposition of contributions from different vibrational excitations weighted by the Franck-Condon Factors, all spectral structures can be well identified and interpreted in a good agreement with the full-scale molecular simulations. Well-characterized XTAS in the proposed IR-control scheme can be applied for fine phase synchronization between IR and x-ray pulses, highly demanded in modern experiments on x-ray free-electron lasers.
