Аннотация: We study the dynamics of the classical homogeneous SU(2) x U(1) gauge theory in the spontaneously broken phase. A transition from regular to chaotic dynamics is shown to occur for energy densities epsilon 0.3m(w)2/G(F) almost-equal-to 2 x 10(10) GeV/fm3. The regular regime is characterized by a sharp frequency spectrum for the Yang-Mills fields. The frequency spectrum in the chaotic regime is continuous and the sharp frequency lines of the regular regime are dispersed. In the early universe or at high energy densities in a Yang-Mills plasma this transition may have observable effects that can be studied by analyzing the frequency spectrum and the time correlation functions. In the chaotic regime these time correlation functions decay considerably faster than in the regular regime.

Аннотация: The Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in the transmission probability of a one-dimensional mesoscopic ring between two electrodes are considered numerically where a time-periodical flux gamma(t)=gamma+lambda cos omega t is applied. Such a flux simulates a phase-coherent inelastic scattering due to the absorption/emission processes of modulation quanta. An increase of alternating flux amplitude lambda drastically changes the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations of the transmission though the exact period remains phi(0)=hc/e. A frequency dependence of the transmission has abrupt steps at omega=(E-E(F))/n, caused by the locking of the transmission in the nth channel where EF is the Fermi level. Moreover, for transmission of a narrow wave packet the time-periodical flux gives rise to two effects. The first is a fractioning of the input wave packet by the ring in such a way that the output wave function consists of a few separate wave packets. Their number, distance apart, and height essentially depend on the static flux gamma. The second effect is a strong space squeezing of the output wave packet.

Аннотация: We consider a semiconductor (AlGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs) double-barrier resonant tunneling nanostructure (DBRTS), in which the bottom of the potential well is modulated by an external periodic potential V(t) = V-mod cos Omega t. We examine the resonance response to both mono-energetic and spatially localized incident electrons, extending previous results in three ways. First, we study numerically the resonant characteristics in the transmission probabilities as functions of both the electron's energy and the frequency of the external field. We find that new low-frequency resonant peaks appear in the frequency dependence of the transmission probabilities and discuss the origin and possible experimental observation of these peaks. Second, we develop an analytic perturbation theory (valid for small values of the parameter lambda = V-mod/h Omega) describing the processes of absorption and emission of single quanta of the modulation field and show that this perturbative treatment agrees well with the results of numerical calculations in the appropriate regions, up to and including the regime in which the one-quantum processes saturate. Third, for localized (Gaussian) incident wave packets, we show numerically that temporal modulations of the potential well in the DBRTS can induce spatial modulations in the transmitted and reflected wave packets. We develop a simple qualitative picture that explains our results. Finally, we estimate characteristic values of the parameters relevant for possible observation of these effects in laboratory experiments.

Аннотация: We consider a typical semiconductor resonant tunnelling GaAs/AlGaAs/GaAs nanostructure which forms a double-barrier potential with quasienergy levels corresponding to transition frequencies in the infrared and microwave regions. Two types of dynamical perturbation of the heterostructure in the form V-1(x, t) = V(1)x cos Omega t and V-2(t) = V-2 cos Omega t are considered. We analyse numerically a reconstruction of the electron transmission through the heterostructure and the current-voltage characteristics (IVC) under the influence of these dynamical perturbations. Both weak and strong perturbations are considered. We investigate the dependences of the transmission on the electron energy and the frequency of the external field with the main accent on the case where a frequency of the perturbation is tuned to a transition between quasienergies of the double-barrier structure. it is found that these resonant phenomena give rise to new peaks and dips in the IVC. In particular, it is shown that the dipole type of perturbation V-1(x, t) gives rise to a Rabi splitting of the transmission peaks and under certain conditions to a Rabi splining of the IVC peaks and dips. We demonstrate that dynamical perturbation may induce a direct current opposite to the direction of the applied voltage, and that this phenomenon takes the form of a sharp dip which has a resonant origin. It is observed that the dipole type of perturbation V-1(x, t) of laser radiation is more effective for tuning the IVC than the first perturbation V-2(t). Also absorption and emission of energy by an electron transmitted through the DBRTS are considered.

Аннотация: We consider the ground-state phase transition from broken to restored phases of the one-dimensional quantum discrete phi(4)-phi(2) model as a function of two parameters: the strength of the quantum fluctuations (measured by a dimensionless Planck constant (h) over bar), and the classical dimensionless coupling parameter gamma, which characterizes the strength of interaction of the neighboring atoms. We introduce several distinct variational methods based on self-consistent phonons and soliton wave functions, and compare their predictions for the phase diagram with the (numerically exact) results of previous quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Our calculations show that in the region of weak coupling (gamma 1), both the ''tunneling soliton'' and the ''two-level'' approaches provide good approximations to the true result. In the intermediate coupling region (gamma(c) gamma 1), the method of self-consistent phonons gives a satisfactory description of phase transition. We also compare and contrast our results with previously published approximate methods, and discuss problems for further investigation. [S0163-1829(97)06242-5].

Аннотация: We consider Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in a mesoscopic semiconductor ring threaded by both a constant magnetic flux and a time-dependent, resonant magnetic field with one or two frequencies. Working in the ballistic regime, we establish that the theory of ''quantum nonlinear resonance'' applies, and thus that this system represents a possible solid-state realization of ''quantum nonlinear resonance'' and ''quantum chaos.'' In particular, we investigate the behavior of the time-averaged electron energy at zero temperature in the regimes of (i) an isolated quantum nonlinear resonance and (ii) the transition to quantum chaos, when two quantum nonlinear resonances overlap. The time-averaged energy exhibits sharp resonant behavior as a function of the applied constant magnetic flux, and has a staircase dependence on the amplitude of the external time-dependent field. In the chaotic regime, the resonant behavior exhibits complex structure as a function of flux and frequency. We compare and contrast the quantum chaos expected in these mesoscopic ''solid-state atoms'' with that observed in Rydberg atoms in microwave fields, and discuss the prospects for experimental observation of the effects we predict.

Аннотация: Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a bound state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. Аннотация: We study the effect of spin-orbit interaction on the electron-transport properties of a cross-junction structure. It results in spin polarization of left and right outgoing electron waves. Consequently, the incoming electron wave of a certain polarization induces a voltage drop perpendicular to the direct current flow between the source and drain of the four-terminal cross structure investigated. The resulting Hall-like resistance is estimated to be of the order of 10(-3)-10(-2)h/e(2) for technologically feasible structures. The effect becomes more pronounced in the vicinity of resonances when the Hall-like resistance changes its sign as a function of the Fermi energy.

Аннотация: The transmission of a TE microwave field with a frequency omega through Gamma, T, and X waveguide junctions filled with a ferromagnetic is considered. These junctions are known to have bound states with below-cutoff frequencies. A probing microwave radiation with a frequency Omega applied to the scattering region generates magnetic oscillations with frequencies omega + n Omega (where n = 0, +/-1, +/-2, ...), which resonantly combine with the bound waveguide states. This effect provides for a new method of studying bound waveguide states and efficiently controlling the transmission of microwave radiation. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: For circular quantum dot (QD), taking into account the Razhba spin-orbit interaction (SOI), an exact energy spectrum is obtained. For a small SOI constant, the eigenfunctions of the QD are found. It is shown that the application of a radiation field with circular polarization removes the Kramers degeneracy of the QD eigenstates. Effective spin polarization of electrons transmitted through the QD owing to a radiation field with circular polarization is demonstrated. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: We study bound states of the two-dimensional Helmholtz equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in an open geometry given by two straight leads of the same width which cross at an angle theta. Such a four-terminal junction with a tunable theta can realized experimentally if a right-angle structure is filled by a ferrite. It is known that for theta=90degrees there is one proper bound state and one eigenvalue embedded in the continuum. We show that the number of eigenvalues becomes larger with increasing asymmetry and the bound-state energies are increasing as functions of theta in the interval (0,90degrees). Moreover, states which are sufficiently strongly bound exist in pairs with a small energy difference and opposite parities. Finally, we discuss how the bound states transform with increasing theta into quasibound states with a complex wave vector.

Аннотация: We study spin-dependent electron transmission through one- and two-dimensional curved waveguides and quantum dots with account of spin-orbit interaction. We prove that for a transmission through an arbitrary structure there is no spin polarization provided the electron transmits in an isolated energy subband and only two leads are attached to the structure. In particular there is no spin polarization in the one-dimensional wire, for which a spin-dependent solution is found analytically. The solution demonstrates the spin evolution as dependent on a length of wire. The numerical solution for transmission of electrons through the two-dimensional curved waveguides coincides with the solution for the one-dimensional wire if the energy of electron is within the first energy subband. In the vicinity of edges of the energy subbands there are sharp anomalies of spin flipping.

Аннотация: A rectangular microwave resonator filled with ferrite with uniaxial magnetic anisotropy is considered. It is shown that this task can be reduced to an empty rhombus resonator with the vertex angle defined by an external magnetic field, provided that the magnetic anisotropy of the ferrite is strong. Therefore, the statistics of eigenfrequencies for TM modes is described by the Brody or semi-Poisson distribution with some exceptional cases.

Аннотация: It is demonstrated, both analytically and numerically, that eigenfunction statistics in chaotic billiards with spin-orbit interaction fundamentally depend on the ratio of the squared spin-orbit interaction constant. If this ratio is small, one of the eigenstate components is a random Gaussian field, whereas another is not universal and depends on the billiard type. In the opposite case, the statistics of both components is described by the independent random complex Gaussian fields with the same variances. In the intermediate case, both eigenfunction components do not satisfy Gaussian statistics. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".
