Аннотация: Transport properties of mesoscopic rings with applied external magnetic field are considered numerically. Rings have square and circular forms and a finite aspect ratio d/L where L is the ring size and d is the width of ring arms. The type of the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations (ABO's) of the transmission substantially depends on the number of channels participating in the electron transmission. Moreover the aspect ratio and the geometrical form of the ring are important for the ABO's. In square rings with a small aspect ratio (d/L = 1/10) the transmission displays periodic ABO's in the region of applied magnetic field defined by the inequality infinity l(B) = ((h) over bar c/eB)(1/2)greater than or equal to d, while for rings with a large aspect ratio (d/L = 1/3) only the single-channel transmission has quasiperiodical ABO's. For the circular rings with small aspect ratios the quasiperiodic ABO's are observed all over the region of the applied magnetic field while for the rings with moderate aspect ratios only the multichannel transmission displays irregular ABO's. The probability current flow patterns demonstrate fine correspondence between the transmission and the vortex structure of current distributions in the rings. For single-channel transmission, electron currents are laminar. For multichannel transport, current flow patterns display a complicated convection pattern in the form of a vortex lattice. An elementary cell of the vortex lattice consists of a few vortices and antivortices and has a size of similar to d/f, where f is the number of channels of electron transmission in the ring. Application of the flux distorts the vortex lattice enormously, partially destroying it. Correspondingly the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations of the transmission become irregular.

Аннотация: We study the Bloch dynamics of a quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate of cold atoms in a tilted optical lattice modeled by a Hamiltonian of Bose-Hubbard type. The corresponding mean-field system described by a discrete nonlinear Schrodinger equation can exhibit dynamical (or modulation) instability due to chaotic dynamics and equipartition over the quasimomentum modes. It is shown that these phenomena are related to Bogoliubov's depletion of the Bose-Einstein condensate and a decoherence of the condensate in the many-particle description. Three types of dynamics are distinguished: (i) decaying oscillations in the region of dynamical instability and (ii) persisting Bloch oscillations or (iii) periodic decay and revivals in the region of stability.

Аннотация: The results of recently developed norm-conserving cluster perturbation theory for doping dependent electronic structure of the Hubbard model are reported. We have found that the momentum distribution of the spectral weight strongly depends on the broadening value delta. At delta = 0.1t, we reproduce the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data, while at delta = 0.01t we obtain two quantum phase transitions. DOI: 10.1134/S0021364011090116

Аннотация: Switching from simple semiconductors to more complicated chemical compositions, we encounter mainly nonstoichiometric or undoped compounds. Combined with other characteristic features of d(f) compounds, this can lead, together with the ordinary scattering by spin disorder in magnetic semiconductors, to an unusual impurity contribution to the total scattering of carriers even in intrinsic semiconductors. A unique scheme for calculating the energy structure of the conduction-band bottom of a ferromagnetic semiconductor and the temperature and field dependences of the impurity contribution to the resistivity is proposed on the basis of a model Hamiltonian. The computed magnetoresistance ratio is negative and has a maximum near T-c. A qualitative comparison is made between the results and the experimental temperature dependences of the Hall mobility and magnetoresistance ratio in the ternary semiconductor n-HgCr2Se4, which is nonstoichiometric with respect to the chalcogen. To identify previously unobserved temperature oscillations of the resistance, a careful analysis is made of the low-temperature part of the resistance using the relations obtained. Аннотация: Charge transfer plasmons (CTPs) that occur in different topology and dimensionality arrays of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) linked by narrow molecular bridges are studied. The occurrence of CTPs in such arrays is related to the ballistic motion of electrons in thin linkers with the conductivity that is purely imaginary, in contrast to the case of conventional CTPs, where metallic NPs are linked by thick bridges with the real optical conductivity caused by carrier scattering. An original hybrid model for describing the CTPs with such linkers has been further developed. For different NP arrays, either a general analytical expression or a numerical solution has been obtained for the CTP frequencies. It has been shown that the CTP frequencies lie in the IR spectral range and depend on both the linker conductivity and the system geometry. It is found that the electron currents of plasmon oscillations correspond to minor charge displacements of only few electrons. It has been established that the interaction of the CTPs with an external electromagnetic field strongly depends on the symmetry of the electron currents in the linkers, which, in turn, are fully governed by the symmetry of the investigated system. The extended model and the analytical expressions for the CTPs frequencies have been compared with the conventional finite difference time domain simulations. It is argued that applications of this novel type of plasmon may have wide ramifications in the area of chemical sensing.

Аннотация: This paper proposes a simple setup for introducing an artificial magnetic field for neutral atoms in 2D optical lattices. This setup is based on the phenomenon of photon-assisted tunneling and involves a low-frequency periodic driving of the optical lattice. This low-frequency driving does not affect the electronic structure of the atom and can be easily realized by the same means which are employed to create the lattice. We also address the problem of detecting this effective magnetic field. In particular, we study the center-of-mass wave packet dynamics, which is shown to exhibit certain features of cyclotron dynamics of a classical charged particle. Copyright (C) EPLA, 2011

Аннотация: The paper studies the dynamics of a Bose–Einstein condensate loaded in a 1D parabolic optical lat tice and excited by a sudden shifting of the lattice center. Depending on the initial shift, this dynamics is either the dipole or Bloch oscillations of the atoms. The effects of the dephasing and atom–atom interactions on the above atomic oscillations are discussed.

Аннотация: We consider the motion of ballistic electrons in a miniband of a semiconductor superlattice (SSL) under the influence of an external, time-periodic electric field. We use a semiclassical, balance-equation approach, which incorporates elastic and inelastic scattering (as dissipation) and the self-consistent field generated by the electron motion. The coupling of electrons in the miniband to the self-consistent held produces a cooperative nonlinear oscillatory mode which, when interacting with the oscillatory external field and the intrinsic Bloch-type oscillatory mode, can lead to complicated dynamics, including dissipative chaos. For a range of values of the dissipation parameters we determine the regions in the amplitude-frequency plane of the external field in which chaos can occur. Our results suggest that for terahertz external fields of the amplitudes achieved by present-day free-electron lasers, chaos may be observable in SSL's. We clarify the nature of this interesting nonlinear dynamics in the superlattice-external-field system by exploring analogies to the Dicke model of an ensemble of two-level atoms coupled with a resonant cavity field, and to Josephson junctions.

Аннотация: Cluster perturbation theory is applied to the two-dimensional Hubbard t - t' - t '' - U model to obtain doping and temperature-dependent electronic spectral function with 4 x 4 and 12-site clusters. It is shown that evolution of the pseudogap and electronic dispersion with doping and temperature is similar and in both cases it is significantly influenced by spin-spin short-range correlations. When short-range magnetic order is weakened by doping or temperature and Hubbard-I-like electronic dispersion becomes more pronounced, the Fermi arc turns into a large Fermi surface and the pseudogap closes. It is demonstrated how static spin correlations impact the overall dispersion's shape and how accounting for dynamic contributions leads to momentum-dependent spectral weight at the Fermi surface and broadening effects.

Аннотация: We consider the dynamics of a quantum particle in a finite along the x-direction square lattice in the presence of a normal to the lattice plane ‘magnetic’ field and an in-plane ‘electric’ field aligned with the y-axis. For a vanishing magnetic field this dynamics would be common Bloch oscillations where the particle oscillates in the y-direction with an amplitude inverse proportional to the electric field. We show that a non-zero magnetic field crucially modifies this dynamics. Namely, the new Bloch oscillations consist of time intervals where the particle moves with constant velocity in the x-direction intermitted by intervals where it is accelerated or decelerated along the lattice edges. Next we address this dynamics in the presence of an inelastic scattering process. We show that the system enters a steady regime with the stationary current which is not uniform across the sample: for a weak electric field (linear response regime) it is localized at the lattice edge while for a strong field it extends inside the sample. A semi-analytical method for calculating the stationary current is presented. Figure 3.3: Total stationary current as the function of an electric field for two samples of different width. In the linear response regime the current is due to the edge states and, hence, is independent of the sample width.

Аннотация: We consider a transmission through the potential relief created by a split gate constriction (quantum point contact). Simultaneously, dc and ac voltages V-up(t)=V-0+V-1 cos omega t and V-dw(t)=V-0+V-1 cos(omega t+theta) are applied to the gates. We show numerically that the in-phase ac voltages (theta=0) smear the conductance steps of the stationary conductance, while the antiphase ac voltages (theta=pi) only shift the conductance steps. Moreover, computation of currents in probing wires connected cross to the time-periodic quantum point contact reveals a net current for theta not equal 0,pi. This implies that the Schrodinger equation described by the electron transport under the effect of the time-periodic long electrodes is equivalent to the transmission in the crossed effective magnetic and electric fields, where the in-plane magnetic field b similar to theta is directed along the transport axis and the electric field e similar to omega is directed perpendicular to the plane of electron transport. Then the vector exb gives rise to the galvanomagnetic current directed cross to the electron transport.

Аннотация: A new phenomenological model is proposed to describe the evolution of the Fermi surface (FS) in a wide range of dopings. It reproduces the key features of the cuprates in the underdoped phase above the superconducting temperature Tc. It is shown that the explicit accounting of strong electron correlation in the framework of the t−J model taken in complementary to the translational symmetry breaking induced by the charge density wave (CDW) gives rise to the Fermi surface reconstruction (FSR) into small electron pockets. While the strong Coulomb repulsion leads to an emergence of the arclike Fermi surface in the pseudogap (PG) phase, the Bragg reflection on the boundaries of the reduced Brillouin zone (BZ) opens up a possibility to close the quasiparticle orbits. Direct calculation of the FS properties allows us to unveil the scenario of the experimentally observed transition to the CDW phase that sets in at the doping level δ≈0.08 and is accompanied by a divergence of the carriers effective mass and the sign reversals of the Hall and Seebeck coefficients.

Аннотация: We consider the spontaneous creation of a dc voltage across a strongly coupled semiconductor superlattice subjected to THz radiation. We show that the dc voltage may be approximately proportional either to an integer or to a half-integer multiple of the frequency of the applied ac field, depending on the ratio of the characteristic scattering rates of conducting electrons. For the case of an ac field frequency less than the characteristic scattering rates, we demonstrate the generation of an unquantized dc voltage.

Аннотация: We study the frequency doubling in a quadratic nonlinear photonic crystal consisting of periodically poled structures mediated by uniform layers with random lengths. These structures can be formed by new local impact methods for ferroelectric crystal structuring. The statistical frequency doubling theory is developed for such structures. The effect of the number of random layers and variation in their thicknesses on the second-harmonic conversion efficiency is clarified. It is demonstrated that a proper choice of the intermediate layer thickness can enhance or suppress the conversion efficiency. A new type of the Makerfringes-like second-harmonic intensity oscillations is predicted. © 2017 Optical Society of America.

Аннотация: Several experimental and theoretical studies indicate the existence of a critical point separating the underdoped and overdoped regions of the high-T-c cuprates' phase diagram. There are at least two distinct proposals on the critical concentration and its physical origin. The first one is associated with the pseudogap formation for p p*, with p* approximate to 0.2. The other relies on the Hall effect measurements and suggests that the critical point and the quantum phase transition (QPT) take place at optimal doping, p(opt) approximate to 0.16. Here we have performed a precise density of states calculation and found that there are two QPTs and the corresponding critical concentrations associated with the change of the Fermi surface topology upon doping.
