Аннотация:
In this work the feature of spatio-temporal evolution of two partially overlapped short pulses of counterintuitive sequence in a medium of three-level absorbing atoms in conditions of adiabatic transfer of population are investigated. The analytic solution is constructed. It is shown, that selective excitation of two-photon resonant state with a near-unity probability is conserved on the length of medium, which is considerably greater than the absorbtion length of a weak probe pulse in the absence of a coupling pulse at the adjacent transition.

Аннотация:
The spatial and temporal dynamics of two short pulses propagating in an optically dense medium of resonant three-level Lambda-atoms is investigated numerically and analytically. The maximum coherence for the Raman transition due to coherent population trapping. it is shown that, at the initial stage of propagation, the waveforms of such pulses only slightly change along the length of the medium, which may considerably exceed the length of linear absorption for a single weak pulse. As the length of the absorbing medium increases, the energy of the probe (first) pulse is completely transferred into the second (control) pulse.

Аннотация:
Inversionless gain in a degenerate three-level system driven by a strong external field and by collisions with a buffer gas is investigated. The mechanism of population distribution in upper laser level, contributed by the collision transfer, as well as by relaxation, induced by pressure of a buffer gas, is discussed in detail. Explicit formulae for analysis of optimal conditions are derived. The idea developed here for the incoherent pump could be generalized to other systems.

Аннотация:
Spatio-temporal dynamics of two short laser pulses propagating in an absorbing medium, which consists of one-and two-photon resonant ii-atoms, is investigated in the adiabatic approximation. We give an analytical solution and compare it with numerical simulations. It is shown that pulses may propagate in a medium, whose thickness is considerably greater than the length of the linear absorption of a single weak probe wave. Finally, full transfer of the probe pulse energy into the coupling pulse takes place. A vector model of the adiabatic interaction of two pulses with three-level atom is proposed.

Аннотация:
Features of the adiabatic population transfer are studied with the spatial evolution of interacting pulses propagating in an optically dense medium of three-level A-atoms taken into account. A self-consistent analytical solution describing the spatial-temporal dynamics of interacting short pulses under the conditions of adiabatic population transfer is constructed in the adiabatic approximation with consideration for the first nonadiabatic correction. Practically complete inversion on a forbidden transition determined by coherent (adiabatic) population transfer is shown to take place over a length of the medium, which may exceed the absorption length of a weak probing pulse in the absence of control radiation on the adjacent transition by several orders of magnitude. We describe how to control the temporal shape of adiabaton using peculiarities of propagation dynamics under coherent population trapping. Temporal compression is demonstrated as a special case of pulse shaping. The general case of unequal oscillator strengths of two optical transitions in an atom is considered.

transparency
on the spectrum of defect modes of one-dimensional photonic crystal is discussed theoretically. Narrowing of defect mode linewidth is predicted due to nonabsorbing highly dispersive medium in defect layer.

Аннотация:
The extraordinary properties of laser-induced
transparency
of a negative-index slab and parametric amplification for a backward wave signal are investigated. The effects of the idler absorption and phase mismatch on the amplification of the signal are studied, and the feasibility of ensuring robust
transparency
for a broad range of control field intensities and slab thicknesses is shown. A particular option consisting of the independent engineering of a strong four-wave mixing response and the negative refractive index is proposed and its specific features are investigated. The feasibility of quantum control over the slab
transparency
in such a scheme is confirmed through numerical experiments. We thus show opportunities and conditions for the compensation of the strong absorption inherent to plasmonic negative-index metamaterials, and we further show achievable
transparency
through coherent energy transfer from the control optical field to the negative-index signal.
