Аннотация: The negative magnetoresistance of thin In2O3 films, obtained by an autowave oxidation reaction, was detected within a temperature range of 4.2-80 K. The magnetoresistance was -1.35% at a temperature of 4.2 K and an external magnetic field of 1 T. A weak localization theory was used to explain the negative magnetoresistance and to determine the phase-coherence length in a temperature range of 4.2-80 K. The phase-coherence length was found to oscillate as the temperatures increased to around 30 K. From the maximum and minimum values of the oscillation of the phase-coherence length, it was suggested that the In2O3 film has two structure characteristic parameters. Transmission electron microscopy showed the structure of the thin In2O3 film to have structural features of a crystal phase- amorphous phase. It was found that the crystalline phase characteristic size was consistent with the maximum phase-coherence length and the amorphous phase characteristic size was consistent with the minimum phase-coherence length. It has been suggested that the temperature measurements of the magnetoresistance and the theory of weak localization can be used to evaluate the structural features of nanocomposite or nanostructured thin films. Аннотация: Dependences of the dispersion laws and damping of waves in an initially sinusoidal superlattice on inhomogeneities with anisotropic correlation properties are studied for the first time. The period of the superlattice is modulated by the random function described by the anisotropic correlation function K-phi(r) that has different correlation radii, k(parallel toparallel to)(-1) and k(perpendicular to)(-1), along the axis of the superlattice z and in the plane xy, respectively. The anisotropy of the correlation is characterized by the parameter lambda = 1 - k(perpendicular to)/k(parallel toparallel to) that can change from lambda = 0 to lambda = 1 when the correlation wave number k(perpendicular to) changes from k(perpendicular to) = k(parallel toparallel to) (isotropic 3D inhomogeneities) to k(perpendicular to) = 0 (1D inhomogeneities). The correlation function of the superlattice K(r) is developed. Its decreasing part goes to the asymptote L that divides the correlation volume into two parts, characterized by finite and infinite correlation radii. The dependences of the width of the gap in the spectrum at the boundary of the Brillouin zone Deltanu and the damping of waves xi on the value of lambda are studied. It is shown that decreasing L leads to the decrease of Deltanu, and increase of xi, with the increase of lambda. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: We study a quantum particle in a tilted honeycomb lattice in the tight-binding approximation. First we discuss the particle eigenstates, i.e., the stationary Wannier-Stark states. These states are proved to be extended states for the rational directions of the static field and localized states for the irrational directions. We find energy bands of the extended states and analyze the localized states. It is shown, in particular, that the localized honeycomb Wannier-Stark states are chaotic states with irregular dependence of the localization length on the static field magnitude. Second we discuss Bloch oscillations of the quantum particle. Irregular Bloch oscillations for irrational directions are observed. В© 2013 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: Wannier-Stark states for semiconductor superlattices in strong static fields, where the interband Landau-Zener tunneling cannot be neglected, are rigorously calculated. The lifetime of these metastable states was found to show multiscale oscillations as a function of the static field, which is explained by an interaction with above-barrier resonances. An equation, expressing the absorption spectrum of semiconductor superlattices in terms of the resonance Wannier-Stark states, is obtained and used to calculate the absorption spectrum in the region of high static fields.

Аннотация: We study classical and quantum scattering properties of particles in the ballistic regime in two-dimensional chaotic billiards that are models of electron- or micro-waveguides. To this end we construct the purely classical counterparts of the scattering probability (SP) matrix \S(n,m)\(2) and Husimi distributions specializing to the case of mixed chaotic motion (incomplete horseshoe). Comparison between classical and quantum quantities allows us to discover the purely classical dynamical origin of certain general as well as particular features that appear in the quantum description of the system. On the other hand, at certain values of energy the tunneling of the wave function into classically forbidden regions produces striking differences between the classical and quantum quantities. A potential application of this phenomenon in the field of microlasers is discussed briefly. We also see the manifestation of whispering gallery orbits as a self-similar structure in the transmission part of the classical SP matrix.

Аннотация: We have considered the Aharonov-Bohm ring which contains superconducting wire with Rashba spin-orbit interaction as a bridge connecting the arms. Using the nonequilibrium Green’s function technique and tight-binding approach transport properties of the device were calculated in linear-response regime. It was shown that the in-plane magnetic-field dependence of conductance has two types of resonance features. If the bridge is in topologically trivial phase and its lowest excitation energy is nonzero the conventional Breit-Wigner peaks defined by the arm energy emerge. When the bridge phase changes to the nontrivial one the Fano resonances appear as a result of the interference of Majorana and arm transport channels. The width of such resonances substantially depends on the degree of localization of the Majorana state. Thus, the considered device can be used to detect these states. Additionally, the effect of Aharonov-Bohm phase on the Fano resonances was analyzed.

Аннотация: ZnO- and C-based heterostructures were fabricated by the layer-by-layer deposition technique using the ion-beam sputtering process. Structure, electrical and magnetic properties of fabricated heterostructures are discussed. The two-phase (ZnO and C) films are evolved into a multilayer structure, consisting of amorphous carbon and crystalline ZnO layers when the bilayer thickness increases. When carbon is added to ZnO, its electrical resistivity reduces. The conduction mechanism changes from the variable-range hopping in a narrow energy band to the nearest neighbors hopping in ZnO–C films with a thickness of h ˂ 150 nm. The temperature dependence of conductivity changes from the Arrhenius-like to logarithmic law, indicating that the strong charge localization turns into a weak one when the film thickness is about 150 nm. The negative magnetoresistance of up to 1% was detected at 77 K. The film ferromagnetism at the temperature of 10 K was not found.

Аннотация: The spectrum and damping of waves in partially randomized multilayer structures are calculated. A method of calculation that was proposed and demonstrated earlier, for the model of a superlattice with a harmonic dependence of its material parameters along its axis in the initial state, is extended to the case of a multilayer structure (i.e., a superlattice with sharp interfaces). One- and three-dimensional random modulations of the period are considered, and the correlation function of the superlattice is derived as a series in which each term is a product of a harmonic and a monotonically decaying function. The law of decay of the correlation function is Gaussian for smooth inhomogeneities, and has different forms for one- and three-dimensional short-wavelength inhomogeneities. The spectrum and damping of waves in the superlattice described by this correlation function are found in the weak-coupling approximation in the vicinities of all of the odd Brillouin zone boundaries. Analytical dependences of the main characteristics of the spectrum and damping on the zone number n are obtained. The conditions for the closing of the gaps at the Brillouin zone boundaries are derived, and depend on the dimensionality of the inhomogeneities and the degree of their smoothness.

Аннотация: Crystalline chalcogenazinoquinolinium monoiodides, where the chalcogen atom is oxygen and sulfur, were studied using a combination of X-ray diffraction, Raman and UV-vis spectroscopies and photoluminescence experimental techniques. Periodic quantum-chemical calculations were performed to characterize the features of electronic structure and vibrational assignment. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy experiments consistently reveal phase transition of thiazinoquinolinium monoiodide at low temperatures with the decrease of symmetry to P1. The luminescence study for oxazinoquinolinium monoiodide reveals the excitation maximum at 532 nm and emission at 650 nm with significantly higher intensity than for the thiazinoquinolinium derivative. The studied chalcogenazinoquinolinium monoiodides demonstrate high values of Stokes shift up to 150 nm.

Аннотация: A model of an organic solar cell based on a Tamm plasmon polariton localized at the boundary of the active layer doped with plasmonic nanoparticles and a multilayer mirror is proposed. It is shown that the integral absorption in the active layer can be increased by 10% compared to the optimized planar solar cell.

Аннотация: We study a resistively shunted semiconductor superlattice subject to a high-frequency electric field. Using a balance equation approach that incorporates the influence of the electric circuit, we determine numerically a range of amplitude and frequency of the ac field for which a de bias and current are generated spontaneously and show that this region is likely accessible to current experiments. Our simulations reveal that the Bloch frequency corresponding to the spontaneous de bias is approximately an integer multiple of the ac field frequency.

Аннотация: This paper is a theoretical investigation of the effect of inhomogeneities in the period of a ferromagnetic superlattice on the high-frequency superlattice susceptibility. The calculations are done for a model in which the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy is taken as the physical parameter that characterizes both the ideal superlattice and a partially randomized superlattice. It is found that as the inhomogeneities become more intense, the two resonance peaks corresponding to the splitting of the spectrum at the edge of the Brillouin zone of the superlattice broaden, move closer to each other, and finally merge into one. The height of this peak increases and the peak width decreases as the intensity of the inhomogeneities increases further. The effect of inhomogeneities on the susceptibility differs dramatically in the two limits of short- and long-wave inhomogeneities: in the latter case (in contrast to the former) the dependence of the separation of the susceptibility peaks on the intensity and correlation properties of the inhomogeneities is nonmonotonic. The possibility of observing these effects in spin-wave resonance experiments involving multilayer magnetic films is also discussed. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(99)01510-3].

Аннотация: We present an experimental spectroscopic study of large random colloidal aggregates of silver nanoparticles undergoing local restructuring. We argue that such well-known phenomena as strong fluctuation of local electromagnetic fields, appearance of "hot spots" and enhancement of nonlinear optical responses depend on the local structure on the scales of several nanosphere diameters, rather than the large-scale fractal geometry of the sample. Аннотация: Slow oscillations (SlO) of magnetoresistance is a convenient tool to measure electronic structure parameters in quasi-two-dimensional metals. We study the possibility to apply this method to multi-band conductors, e.g., to iron-based high-temperature superconducting materials. We show that SlO can be used to measure the interlayer transfer integral in multi-band conductors similar to single-band metals. In addition, the SlO allow to measure and compare the effective masses or the electron scattering rates in various bands.

Аннотация: A criterion for revealing edge states in the case when the size of a system is comparable with the localization length of these states has been proposed. The application of the algorithm for determining edge states in short systems has been demonstrated on examples of the Bernevig–Hughes–Zhang (BHZ) model in the cylindrical geometry, the Kitaev model, and a chain with the spin–orbit interaction and induced superconductivity. It has been shown that for finite-length 1D systems, there exist ranges of parameters in which the edge states are not formed, although the topological index is nontrivial; conversely, the emergence of the Majorana modes in regions with a trivial topological index has been demonstrated.

Аннотация: We studied the feasibility of using a short-term culture of monocytes, isolated from peripheral donor blood, to assess the biological activity of different types of bionanomaterials (BNM): biodegradable polimeric particles, fiber and film substrates of micro- and nano-dimensions, fullerenes (F) and nanodiamonds (ND), which are either currently in use and/or potentially applicable in medicine. Additionally, the effect of creating a protein corona on ND and F particles was investigated. The cellular reduction of (4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) is a well-established tool for assessing the viability/metabolic activity of cells. The scanning electron microscopy assay can detect fine changes in cell morphology. In the present study BNM have been shown to affect; in a size, chemical composition and morphological characteristics-dependent manner, the ability of monocytes to reduce MTT as well as their morphology. Moreover, the specific effects of ND and F on MTT reduction and cell morphology were exhibited in a dose-dependent manner and sensitive to the formation of surface protein corona. Our results suggest that short-term culture of monocytes is a sensitive model system for assessing the biological effects of BMPs in vitro. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Аннотация: A ferromagnetic Fe–In2O3 nanocomposite thin film has been synthesized by the thermite reaction Fe2O3+In→Fe–In2O3. Measurements of the Hall carrier concentration, Hall mobility and magnetoresistance have been conducted at room temperature. The nanocomposite Fe–In2O3 thin film had n=1.94·1020 cm−3, μ=6.45 cm2/Vs and negative magnetoresistance. The magnetoresistance for 8.8 kOe was ~−0.22%.The negative magnetoresistance was well described by the weak localization and model proposed by Khosla and Fischer.

Аннотация: On the basis of the earlier developed statistical theory of the growth of the effective size of correlated clusters (the number of correlated spins), an expression for the shape of the multiple-quantum (MQ) NMR spectrum is obtained that takes into account the loss of coherence in a spin system due, for example, to the controlled intervention of the experimenter. It is shown that the scrambling and decoherence processes in the MQ spectrum of the multiparticle system of a solid are not separated, unlike the corresponding spectra of some large isolated molecules [27] in a solution. The relations obtained allow one to extract the necessary information about the above processes (scrambling and decoherence) from the dependence of the MQ spectra on experimental parameters.
