Аннотация: We develop a semiclassical method to determine the nonlinear dynamics of dissipative quantum optical systems in the limit of large number of photons N; it is based on the 1/N-expansion and the quantum-classical correspondence. The method is used to tackle two problems: the study of the dynamics of nonclassical state generation in higher order anharmonic dissipative oscillators and the establishment of the difference between the quantum and classical dynamics of the second-harmonic generation in a self-pulsing regime. In addressing the first problem, we obtain an explicit time dependence of the squeezing and the Fano factor for an arbitrary degree of anharmonism in the short-time approximation. For the second problem, we analytically find a characteristic time scale at which the quantum dynamics differs insignificantly from the classical one. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: We develop a method for the determination of the dynamics of dissipative quantum systems in the limit of large number of quanta N, based on the 1/N-expansion of Heidmann et al. [Opt. Commun. 54, 189 (1985)] and the quantum-classical correspondence. Using this method, we End analytically the dynamics of nonclassical states generation in the higher-order anharmonic dissipative oscillators for an arbitrary temperature of a reservoir. We show that the quantum correction to the classical motion increases with time quadratically up to some maximal value, which is dependent on the degree of nonlinearity and a damping constant, and then it decreases. Similarities and differences with the corresponding behavior of the quantum corrections to the classical motion in the Hamiltonian chaotic systems are discussed. We also compare our results obtained for some limiting cases with the results obtained by using other semiclassical tools and discuss the conditions for validity of our approach.

Аннотация: An approximation dependence of the spontaneous magnetic moment at a site, sigma/sigma(0) - 1 = 0.71(6)delta(2.5(2)), and the antiferromagnet-singlet state phase boundary, J(2)/J(1) = 0.52(3)delta, are determined by the quantum Monte Carlo method in the self-consistent sublattice molecular field approximation for weakly interacting (J(2)) antiferromagnetic chains with spin S = 1/2 and alternating exchange interaction (J(1) +/- delta). The Neel temperature and a number of critical temperatures which could be related with the filling energy of two singlets (Delta S-z = 0) and one triplet (Delta S-z= 1) spin bands, each of which is split by the sublattice field (h(x,y)not equal h(z)) into two subbands, are determined on the basis of the computed correlation radii of the two- and four-spin correlation function, the squared total spin (S-z)(2) with respect to the longitudinal components, the dimerization parameter, and the correlation functions between the nearest neighbors with respect to longitudinal and transverse spin components. On the basis of the Monte Carlo calculations, the critical temperatures and possible energy gaps at the band center are determined for the antiferromagnets CuWO4 and Bi2CuO4 and for the singlet compounds (VO)(2)P2O7 and CuGeO3 , agreeing satisfactorily with existing results, and new effects are also predicted. Аннотация: The problems of error correction in a spin quantum computer are discussed. For digital processing in the Ising and Heisenberg chains driven by a resonant electromagnetic field, the simple schemes are suggested which provide correction of errors caused by imperfect pi pulses, and prevent the most significant errors caused by the nonresonant action of rr pulses. The probability of error caused by the Heisenberg interaction during the action of rr pulses is estimated. For quantum computations in spin systems a principal opportunity to correct the phase errors, based on Steane's three quantum-bits scheme, is described.

Аннотация: The spectroscopic properties of an open large Bunimovich cavity are studied numerically in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian formalism. The cavity is opened by attaching two leads to it in four different ways. In some cases, the transmission takes place via standing waves with an intensity that closely follows the profile of the resonances. In other cases, short-lived and long-lived resonance states coexist. The short-lived states cause traveling waves in the transmission while the long-lived ones generate superposed fluctuations. The traveling waves oscillate as a function of energy. They are not localized in the interior of the large chaotic cavity. In all considered cases, the phase rigidity fluctuates with energy. It is mostly near to its maximum value and agrees well with the theoretical value for the two-channel case.

Aharonov-Bohm ring -- Rashba spin-orbit interaction -- bound states in the continuum
Аннотация: We consider the trapping of electrons with a definite spin polarization by bound states in the continuum (BSC) in the open Aharonov-Bohm rings in the presence of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction (RSOI). Neglecting the Zeeman term we show the existence of BSCs in the one-dimensional ring when the eigenstates of the closed ring are doubly degenerate. With account of the Zeeman term BSCs occur only at the points of threefold degeneracy. The BSCs are found in the parametric space of flux and RSOI strength in close pairs with opposite spin polarization. Thereby the spin polarization of electrons transmitted through the ring can be altered by minor variation of magnetic or electric field at the vicinity of these pairs. Numerical simulations of the two-dimensional open ring show similar results for the BSCs. Encircling the BSC points in the parametric space of the flux and the RSOI constant gives rise to a geometric phase.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a T-shaped photonic waveguide coupled with two identical symmetrically positioned nonlinear microcavities. We present two types of symmetry breaking. The first one is a result of mixing of the symmetric input wave with antisymmetric bound states in the Fabry-Perot interferometer architecture. Similarly, the second mechanism of the symmetry breaking is the result of mixing the symmetrical input wave with the antibonding bound state in a straight waveguide coupled with two cavities positioned perpendicular to the waveguide. In both cases the mixing is due to nonlinearity. In turn, the symmetry-breaking solutions give rise to nonsymmetrical outputs in the T-shape waveguide. These effects are directly demonstrated by the electromagnetic field solutions which are complimented by coupled mode theory for the light transmission.

Аннотация: Complexes of zigzag-type carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with transition metal atoms, scandium and titanium, were studied. It was demonstrated that the energy of binding of both atoms with a carbon surface decreases whereas the rate of diffusion along the surface increases with increasing nanotube diameter. The rate constant of migration of scandium atoms over a CNT surface are several orders of magnitude higher than that for titanium atoms, because the CNT surface-Sc atom binding energy is substantially lower.

Аннотация: We analyze the transport phenomena of two-dimensional quantum billiards with convex boundary of different shape. The quantum mechanical analysis is performed by means of the poles of the S matrix while the classical analysis is based on the motion of a free particle inside the cavity along trajectories with a different number of bounces at the boundary. The value of the conductance depends on the manner in which the leads are attached to the cavity. The Fourier transform of the transmission amplitudes is compared with the length of the classical paths. There is good agreement between classical and quantum mechanical results when the conductance is achieved mainly by special short-lived states such as whispering gallery modes and bouncing ball modes. In these cases, also the localization of the wave functions agrees with the picture of the classical paths. The S matrix is calculated classically and compared with the transmission coefficients of the quantum mechanical calculations for five modes in each lead. The number of modes coupled to the special states is effectively reduced.

Аннотация: he photoexcitation and photodissociation of diatomic molecules by intense pulse lasers has been the subject of extensive investigations over the past decades. However, the usually employed theoretical framework neglects the coupling between the molecular rotational angular momentum (R) and the angular momentum of the electrons projected onto the molecular axis Ω=Λ+Σ, which results in the known Λ-doubling phenomenon in high-resolution electronic spectra of diatomic molecules. While neglecting this coupling is an excellent approximation in the weak-field or perturbative regime owing to the large mass difference between the rotating atoms and the electrons, the approximation breaks down for intense laser pulses because of the repeated Rabi cycling of the electronic transitions, which can have a significant effect on the rotational degrees of freedom of the molecule. By correcting the transition dipole matrix elements and introducing angular basis sets based on Wigner D functions, the conventional theoretical treatment is generalized to a universal description valid for both the weak- and strong-field regimes. The theoretical treatment developed here is applied to the ∣1Σ› to ∣1Π› transitions in diatomic systems. Our results reveal that, for field intensities resulting in about one Rabi cycling for extreme ultraviolet or x-ray transitions, the theoretical predictions by the conventional theoretical frame need to be corrected when considering observables such as the molecular alignment and the angular distribution of the photofragments.

Аннотация: Collective modes of the gyrotropic motion of a magnetic vortex core in ordered arrays of triangular and square ferromagnetic film nanodots have been theoretically investigated. The dispersion relations have been derived. The dipole-dipole interaction of the magnetic moments of the magnetic vortex cores of elements has been taken into account in the approximation of a small shift from the equilibrium position. It is shown that the effective rigidity of the magnetic subsystem of triangular elements is noticeably higher than that of the subsystem of square elements of the same linear sizes. The potential application of the polygonal film nanodisks as nanoscalpels for noninvasive tumor cell surgery is discussed.

Long nonlinear two-dimensional traveling waves on a film driven by laminar gas flow are investigated numerically via solving Navier-Stokes equations. The evolution of their shape, amplitude, and speed with increasing Reynolds number is studied. The existence of solitary waves is demonstrated. A comparison between shear driven and gravity-capillary waves is made and discussed. It is shown that shear driven waves as compared to gravity driven waves are much higher for equal film Reynolds numbers and much slower for equal wave amplitudes.

Аннотация: We discuss applications of the theory of quantum chaos to one of the paradigm models of many-body quantum physics - the Bose-Hubbard (BH) model, which describes, in particular, interacting ultracold Bose atoms in an optical lattice. After preliminary, pure quantum analysis of the system we introduce the classical counterpart of the BH model and the governing semiclassical equations of motion. We analyze these equations for the problem of Bloch oscillations (BOs) of cold atoms where a number of experimental results are available. The paper is written for nonexperts and can be viewed as an introduction to the field.

Аннотация: We analyze the driven Harper model, which appears in the problem of tight-binding electrons in the Hall configuration (normal to the lattice plane magnetic field plus in-plane electric field). The presence of an electric field extends the celebrated Harper model, which is parametrized by the Peierls phase, into the driven Harper model, which is additionally parametrized by two Bloch frequencies, associated with the two components of the electric field. We show that the eigenstates of the driven Harper model are either extended or localized, depending on the commensurability of the Bloch frequencies. This results holds for both rational and irrational values of the Peierls phase. In the case of incommensurate Bloch frequencies we provide an estimate for the wave-function localization length.

Аннотация: The use of carbon nanotubes coated by atoms of transition metals to store molecular hydrogen is associated with the problem of the aggregation of these atoms, which leads to the formation of metal clusters. The quantum-chemical simulation of cluster models of the carbon surface of a graphene type with scandium and titanium atoms has been performed. It has been shown that the presence of five- and seven-membered rings, in addition to six-membered rings, in these structures makes it possible to strongly suppress the processes of the migration of metal atoms over the surface, preventing their clustering.

Аннотация: Perovskite structured materials contain myriad tunable ordered phases of electronic and magnetic origin with proven technological importance and strong promise for a variety of energy solutions. An always-contributing influence beneath these cooperative and competing interactions is the lattice, whose physics may be obscured in complex perovskites by the many coupled degrees of freedom, which makes these systems interesting. Here, we report signatures of an approach to a quantum phase transition very near the ground state of the nonmagnetic, ionic insulating, simple cubic perovskite material ScF3, and show that its physical properties are strongly effected as much as 100 K above the putative transition. Spatial and temporal correlations in the high-symmetry cubic phase determined using energy- and momentum-resolved inelastic x-ray scattering as well as x-ray diffraction reveal that soft mode, central peak, and thermal expansion phenomena are all strongly influenced by the transition.

Аннотация: Self-assembly of colloidal semiconductor quantum dots controlled solely by laser-induced interaction is demonstrated for the first time. Pairs of CdTe nanoparticles are formed under irradiation with nanosecond pulses at wavelengths 555 or 560 nm. Formation of pairs is justified by corresponding changes of absorption spectra. Conditions of the experiment are in excellent agreement with those predicted by the theory of laser-induced dipole-dipole interaction of QDs. The fraction of QDs assembled into pairs is up to 47%. Аннотация: The time dependence of an increase in the number of correlated spins in cluster was calculated for a particular variant of multiple-quantum (MQ) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy using an effective two-quantum Hamiltonian that includes conventional secular nuclear dipole-dipole interaction as a weak perturbation at the stage of correlation preparation. It was shown that the cluster size grows steadily, while the width of the MQ spectrum stabilizes because the decay rates of the spectral components located at different areas of the MQ spectrum are different. The MQ bandwidth was also calculated as a function of the preparation time for various perturbation strengths. The results obtained are in excellent agreement with the experimental data reported in Alvarez and Suter (Phys Rev A 84:012320, 2011).

Аннотация: Spectrum modification and damping of Josephson plasma waves induced by random inhomogeneities of the critical current through the superconductor contact and the averaged Green function of such excitations are analyzed. In the self-consistent approximation that makes it possible to take into account multiple wave scattering on the inhomogeneities, the frequency and damping of averaged waves, as well as position nu (m) and peak width Delta nu of the Fourier transform imaginary part of the averaged Green function, are determined as functions of wavevector k. The evolution of such functions with the variation of the correlation radius and the relative r.m.s. fluctuations of inhomogeneities is studied. The inhomogeneity-induced wave frequency decrease observed in the long wavelength spectral region qualitatively agrees with the nu (m) behavior. It is established that in the case of "long-range" inhomogeneities, the linear dependence of damping on k changes to the inversely proportional one, and damping tends to zero as k - 0, while Delta nu at small k attains its maximal values due to nonuniform broadening. In the presence of "short-range" inhomogeneities, the wave damping and Delta nu are found to be similar functions of k. The results are compared to the numerical calculation data.
