Аннотация: Wannier-Stark states for semiconductor superlattices in strong static fields, where the interband Landau-Zener tunneling cannot be neglected, are rigorously calculated. The lifetime of these metastable states was found to show multiscale oscillations as a function of the static field, which is explained by an interaction with above-barrier resonances. An equation, expressing the absorption spectrum of semiconductor superlattices in terms of the resonance Wannier-Stark states, is obtained and used to calculate the absorption spectrum in the region of high static fields.

Аннотация: Coupling between the defect mode of a cholesteric liquid crystal and the localized mode of a cholesteric liquid crystal-phase plate-metal structure is theoretically demonstrated. It is shown that the transmittance spectrum can be tuned by changing the twist-defect angle and helix pitch, which are governed by external factors. The spectra for different circular polarizations of the incident light are different; specifically, at the nondiffracting polarization, there is no defect-mode transmittance peak.

Аннотация: We consider single-channel transmission through a double quantum dot that consists of two identical single dots coupled by a wire. The numerical solution for the scattering wave function shows that the resonance width of a few of the states may vanish when the width (or length) of the wire and the energy of the incident particle each take a certain value. In such a case, a particle is trapped inside the wire as the numerical visualization of the scattering wave function shows. To understand these numerical results, we explore a simple model with a small number of states, which allows us to consider the problem analytically. If the eigenenergies of the closed system cross the energies of the transmission zeroes, the wire effectively decouples from the rest of the system and traps the particle. Аннотация: The band structure of La2CuO4 in antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases is calculated at finite temperatures by the multielectron LDA+GTB method. The temperature dependence of the band spectrum and the spectral weight of Hubbard fermions is caused by a change in the occupation numbers of local multielectron spin-split terms in the antiferromagnetic phase. A decrease in the magnetization of the sublattice with temperature gives rise to new bands near the bottom of the conduction band and the top of the valence band. It is shown that the band gap decreases with increasing temperature, but La2CuO4 remains an insulator in the paramagnetic phase as well. These results are consistent with measurements of the red shift of the absorption edge in La2CuO4 with increasing temperature. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: Spectral peculiarities of the structure consisting of a photonic crystal coated with a nanocomposite (NC) have been investigated. The NC used contains spheroidal nanoparticles with a dielectric core and a metallic shell, which are uniformly dispersed in a transparent matrix. The spectral manifestation of the observed Tamm plasmon polariton (TPP) and Fabry-Perot mode has been examined. A significant polarization sensitivity of the spectra upon variation in the nanoparticle shape has been demonstrated. The dispersion curves presented for the TPP and Fabry-Perot mode are shown to be in good agreement with the spectra obtained by the transfer matrix method.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a T-shaped photonic waveguide coupled with two identical symmetrically positioned nonlinear microcavities. We present two types of symmetry breaking. The first one is a result of mixing of the symmetric input wave with antisymmetric bound states in the Fabry-Perot interferometer architecture. Similarly, the second mechanism of the symmetry breaking is the result of mixing the symmetrical input wave with the antibonding bound state in a straight waveguide coupled with two cavities positioned perpendicular to the waveguide. In both cases the mixing is due to nonlinearity. In turn, the symmetry-breaking solutions give rise to nonsymmetrical outputs in the T-shape waveguide. These effects are directly demonstrated by the electromagnetic field solutions which are complimented by coupled mode theory for the light transmission.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear defects positioned symmetrically aside the waveguide. With the coupled mode theory, we show three scenarios for the transmission. The first one inherits the linear case and preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario, the symmetry is broken because of different light intensities at the defects. In the third scenario, the intensities at the defects are equal but phases of complex amplitudes are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the defects similar to the dc Josephson effect if the input power over the waveguide is applied and the defects are coupled. All of these phenomena agree well with computations based on an expansion of the electromagnetic field into optimally adapted photonic Wannier functions in a 2D photonic crystal.

Аннотация: Using coupled mode theory we consider transmission in a T-shaped waveguide coupled with two identical symmetrically positioned nonlinear micro-cavities with mirror symmetry. For input power injected into the central waveguide we show the existence of a symmetry breaking solution which is a result of mixing of the symmetrical input wave with an antisymmetric standing wave in the Fabry-Perot interferometer. With growth of the input power, a feature in the form of loops arises in the solution which originates from bistability in the transmission in the output left/right waveguide coupled with the first/second nonlinear cavity. The domains of stability of the solution are found. The breaking of mirror symmetry gives rise to nonsymmetrical left and right outputs. We demonstrate that this phenomenon can be explored for all-optical switching of light transmission from the left output waveguide to the right one by application of input pulses.

Аннотация: We consider resonant vortices around nodal points of the wave function describing electron transport through a mesoscopic der-ice. With a suitable choice of the device geometry. the dominating role is played of single vortices with a preferred orientation. To characterize the strength of the resulting magnetic moment, we have introduced a "magnetance," the quantity defined in analogy with the device conductance. Аннотация: The spectroscopic properties of an open large Bunimovich cavity are studied numerically in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian formalism. The cavity is opened by attaching two leads to it in four different ways. In some cases, the transmission takes place via standing waves with an intensity that closely follows the profile of the resonances. In other cases, short-lived and long-lived resonance states coexist. The short-lived states cause traveling waves in the transmission while the long-lived ones generate superposed fluctuations. The traveling waves oscillate as a function of energy. They are not localized in the interior of the large chaotic cavity. In all considered cases, the phase rigidity fluctuates with energy. It is mostly near to its maximum value and agrees well with the theoretical value for the two-channel case.

Аннотация: Analysis of the experimental optical spectra of CuO nanoparticles with the electronic structure characterized by strong electron correlations has revealed the appearance of unusual states inside the band gap. Аннотация: We consider a system that consists of two single-quantum billiards (QBs) coupled by a waveguide and study the transmission through this system as a function of length and width of the waveguide. To interpret the numerical results for the transmission, we explore a simple model with a small number of states which allows us to consider the problem analytically. The transmission is described in the S-matrix formalism by using the non-Hermitian effective Hamilton operator for the open system. The coupling of the single QBs to the internal waveguide characterizes the 'internal' coupling strength u of the states of the system while that of the system as a whole to the attached leads determines the 'external' coupling strength v of the resonance states via the continuum (waves in the leads). The transmission is resonant for all values of v/u in relation to the effective Hamiltonian. It depends strongly on the ratio u/u via the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the effective Hamiltonian. The results obtained are compared qualitatively with those from simulation calculations for larger systems. Most interesting is the existence of resonance states with vanishing widths that may appear at all values of v/u. They cause zeros in the transmission through the double QB due to trapping of the particle in the waveguide.

Аннотация: The studies of the topological properties of systems have recently been extended due to a new concept of higher-order topological insulators and superconductors. Many models were proposed for two-dimensional systems on a square lattice, where corner excitations can appear; however, the problem of existence of such excitations in superconducting systems with a triangular crystal lattice is still poorly understood. Using a topological insulator in the form of a triangle with a chiral superconducting order parameter as an example, we shows that corner excitations can exist in C3-symmetric systems. In spite of a nontopological character, these excitations have energies inside the gap of the first-order edge excitation spectrum over a wide parameter range and are well localized at the corners of the system. Gapless corner excitations are shown to exist in the system at certain parameters. The application of a magnetic field in the system plane removes the triple degeneracy of the corner excitation energy and makes it possible to control the position of the minimum-energy corner excitation using a magnetic field. At the same time the fine adjustment to achieve the gapless excitations at the chosen corner can be made with changing of the magnetic field value.

Аннотация: A concept of an easily tunable device based on hybrid Tamm modes is proposed. The device can be controlled using a high-sensitivity chiral liquid crystal serving as a mirror. The coupling of the chiral optical Tamm state with the Tamm plasmons is predicted. The Tamm plasmons are excited at different frequencies for the orthogonal linear polarizations, while the chiral Tamm state is excited at only one frequency. The properties of the proposed model are analytically and numerically calculated. The possibility of creating a two- and three-mode laser with tunable characteristics on the basis of the proposed model is discussed.

Аннотация: We discuss the conditions under which Majorana zero modes can be implemented in the coexistence phase of chiral superconductivity and 120°-type noncollinear spin structure on the triangular lattice. It is shown that the gapless elementary excitations exist on the finite region in the parameter space consisting of the effective exchange field, the chemical potential, and the superconducting order parameter. The range of parameters supporting Majorana edge states with exactly zero excitation energy has also been found.Обсуждаются условия, при которых в фазе сосуществования киральной сверхпроводимости и неколлинеарной 120-градусной спиновой структуры на треугольной решетке могут реализоваться майорановские нулевые моды. Показано, что бесщелевые элементарные возбуждения существуют в конечной области параметрического пространства, определяемого эффективным обменным полем, химическим потенциалом и сверхпроводящим параметром порядка. Набор параметров, формирующий майорановские краевые состояния со строго равной нулю энергией возбуждения, также был найден.

Аннотация: An exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian in the p-d model of a CuO6 cluster was used to obtain dependences on the model parameters of the lowest-energy two-hole terms: the energy difference between the 2p orbitals of planar and apical oxygen Delta(apex) = epsilon(2p) - epsilon[2p(apex)], the crystal field parameter Delta(d) = epsilon(3z2-r2)-epsilon(x2-y2), and the ratio of the distances between the copper atom and the apical and planar oxygen atoms d(apex)/d(pl). In the limit of large d(apex)/d(pl) and Delta(d), OUT model is equivalent to the three-band p-d model and, in this case, large singlet-triplet splitting Delta epsilon greater than or equal to 1 eV is also observed. As the parameters decrease, a singlet-triplet crossover is observed. Two mechanisms are identified for stabilization of the tripler term B-3(1g)(0) as the ground state. It is shown that for realistic values of the parameters, reduction of the p-d model to the three-band model is limited by the low energies of the current excitations because of the presence of the lower excited B-3(1g), and (1)A(1g) cluster states. Intercluster hopping causes strong mixing of singlet and triplet states far from the Gamma point. The results of the calculations are compared with data obtained by angle-resolved photoelectron emission in Sr2CuO2Cl2. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: We study the statistics of the Wigner delay time and resonance width for a Bloch particle in ac and de fields in the regime of quantum chaos. It is shown that after appropriate rescaling the distributions of these quantities have a universal character predicted by the random matrix theory of chaotic scattering. [s1063-651X(99)09907-9].
