Аннотация: We consider light transmission in X- and T-shaped photonic crystal waveguides which hold nonlinear defect with two resonant dipole modes. By use of the coupled-mode theory and by numerical solution of the Maxwell equations for the transverse-magnetic (TM) light mode, we show two stable types of the solutions. The first type has no cross talk, while the second type does owe to nonlinearity of the defect. We show also that direct path transmission processes in the waveguides play an important role for breaking of symmetry.

Аннотация: This paper presents a ferrite tunable waveguide filter showing high Qu and high tunability in X-band. A new type of waveguide cavity resonator with an H102 operating mode was proposed for the creation of a low-loss, two-pole filter. The filter results in an insertion loss of 3.6-4.1 dB over the tuning range 8.74-9.63 GHz with a relative bandwidth of 0.92-0.79% and biasing magnetic field 0-600 Oe. This design demonstrates an unloaded quality factor of 380-396 over the tunable frequency range. © 2016 IEEE.

Аннотация: By use of coupled-mode theory we analyze a channel add-drop filter based on two dispersive waveguides symmetrically coupled with two resonant optical cavities. We show new solutions for the channel-drop filter processes compared to the solutions found by Manolatou et al (1999 IEEE J. Quantum Electron. 35 1322). For a special choice of the dispersion of the waveguides, we reveal a frequency region with sufficient total reflection.

Аннотация: We consider numerically the L-, T-, and X-shaped elastic waveguides with the Dirichlet boundary conditions for in-plane deformations (displacements) which obey the vectorial Navier-Cauchy equation. In the X-shaped waveguide we show the existence of a doubly degenerate bound state with frequency below the first symmetrical cutoff frequency, which belongs to the two-dimensional irreducible representation E of symmetry group C-4v. Moreover the next bound state is below the next antisymmetric cutoff frequency. This bound state belongs to the irreducible representation A(2). The T-shaped waveguide has only one bound state while the L-shaped one has no bound states.

Аннотация: Photonic crystal with defect layer forms directed continuum for electromagnetic waves. Defect rods in the vicinity of the defect layer interact with the continuum and give rise to scattering of ingoing waves. We derive quantum-mechanical analog of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the open system with complex eigenvalues, which describes a scattering of electromagnetic waves by the defect rods. In this formalism a bound state in the continuum (BIC) can be easily found by the condition that one of the complex eigenvalues becomes real for variation of dielectric constant of the defect rods. We numerically find BICs with discrete frequencies belong to the continuum for different arrangements of the defects and show that they are localized around the defects.

Аннотация: We show that two nonlinear resonant cavities aligned between two parallel waveguides can support self-induced bound states in the continuum (BSCs). These BSCs are symmetrical relative to an inversion of the waveguides and to inversion of the transport axis. Due to this BSCs can drop an incident wave from one waveguide to another with very high efficiency. We show also that the frequency of the efficient channel dropping can be tuned by injecting power. All these results are in good agreement with numerical solutions of the Maxwell equations in a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and two defects made of a Kerr medium. Аннотация: The purely classical counterpart of the scattering probability matrix (SPM) \S(n,m)\(2) of the quantum scattering matrix S is defined for two-dimensional quantum waveguides for an arbitrary number of propagating modes M. We compare the quantum and classical structures of \S(n,m)\(2) for a waveguide with generic Hamiltonian chaos. It is shown that even for a moderate number of channels, knowledge of the classical structure of the SPM allows us to predict the global structure of the quantum one and, hence, understand important quantum transport properties of waveguides in terms of purely classical dynamics. It is also shown that the SPM, being an intensity measure, can give additional dynamical information to that obtained by the Poincare maps.

Аннотация: Transport through quantum and microwave cavities is studied by analytic and numerical techniques. In particular, we consider the statistics for a finite net probability current (Poynting vector) flowing through an open ballistic Sinai billiard to which two opposite leads/wave guides are attached. We show that if the net probability current is small, the scattering wave function inside the billiard is well approximated by a Gaussian random complex field. In this case, the current statistics are universal and obey simple analytic forms. For larger net currents, these forms still apply over several orders of magnitudes. However, small characteristic deviations appear in the tail regions. Although the focus is on electron and microwave billiards, the analysis is relevant also to other classical wave cavities as, for example, open planar acoustic reverberation rooms, elastic membranes, and water surface waves in irregularly shaped vessels.

Аннотация: In this paper demountable K/Q bands feed for satellite communication Cassegrain antenna is reported. The feed is based on the combined coaxial-circular waveguide, in which outer wall of a circular waveguide is used as an inner conductor of a coaxial waveguide. This design allows to simultaneously transmit and receive signals in two widely separated frequency bands. A coaxial joint, which is the key part of the feed, is proposed and described in details. The joint performs several functions. First is to transmit the microwave energy through both waveguides. Second is ensuring the waveguides sealing. And third is ensuring the circular and coaxial waveguides alignment. The joint simulation results demonstrated return loss below-20 dB and insertion loss less than 0.06 dB in 20-21 GHz frequency range (K-band) as well as return loss below-30 dB and insertion loss less than 0.15 dB in 43-45.5 GHz frequency range (Q-band). Mechanical prototype of the joint was manufactured and tested.

Аннотация: The new class of quasi-2D superlattices based on graphene with periodically adsorbed hydrogen pairs was proposed. The ab initio DFT method was used for optimization of the atomic geometry and electronic structure of propose structures. It was found that the superlattices band gap decreases nonmonotonically with distance between hydrogen pairs. Based on these results we hope that the graphene superlattices can be promising candidates for various nanotechnological applications especially as elements in nanoelectronic devices. Аннотация: We consider quantum transmission through double-bend Pi- and Z-shaped waveguides controlled by the finger gate potential. Using the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian approach we explain the resonances in transmission. We show a difference in transmission in the short waveguides that is the result of different chirality in Z and Pi waveguides. We demonstrate that the potential selectively affects the resonant widths resulting in the occurrence of bound states in the continuum.

Аннотация: Bound states in the continuum (BICs) provide a viable way of achieving high-Q resonances in both photonics and acoustics. In this work, we propose a general method of constructing Friedrich-Wintgen (FW) BICs and accidental BICs in a coupled acoustic waveguide-resonator system. We demonstrate that FW BICs can be achieved with arbitrary two degenerate resonances in a closed resonator, regardless of whether they have the same or opposite parity. Moreover, their eigenmode profiles can be arbitrarily engineered by adjusting the position of the attached waveguide. This suggests an effective way of continuously switching the nature of the BICs from FW BICs to symmetry-protected BICs or accidental BICs. Also, such BICs are sustained in the coupled waveguide-resonator system with shapes such as rectangles, ellipses, and rhomboids. These interesting phenomena are well explained by the two-level effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, where two strongly coupled degenerate modes play a major role in forming such FW BICs. Additionally, we find that such an open system also supports accidental BICs in geometry space instead of momentum space via tuning the position of the attached waveguide, which is attributed to the quenched coupling between the waveguide and eigenmodes of the closed cavity. Finally, we fabricate a series of three-dimensional coupled resonator waveguides and experimentally verify the existence of FW BICs and accidental BICs by measuring the transmission spectra. Our results complement the current BIC library in acoustics and provide nice routes for designing acoustic devices, such as acoustic absorbers, filters, and sensors.

Аннотация: A non-coaxial waveguide composed of a cylindrical resonator of radius R and cylindrical waveguides with the radii r1 and r2, respectively, is considered. The radii satisfy the inequality r1˂r2˂R. The conversion from the channel with zero orbital angular momentum (OAM) into the channels with non-zero OAM is achieved by shifting the center lines of the waveguides relative to the center line of the cylindrical resonator. The center lines of input and output waveguides are shifted relative to each other by the angle Δϕ in order to twist the output acoustic wave. The conversion efficiency of the input wave with zero OAM into the output wave with non-zero OAM as dependent on the frequency, length of the resonator, and Δϕ is considered, and the domains where the efficiency can reach almost 100% are found.

Аннотация: The problem of finding the Green's function of spin and electromagnetic waves in the sinusoidal superlattice is considered. An analytical expression for the spectral representation of the Green's function has been found in the form of ascending continued fractions, the particular denominators of which are ordinary continued fractions. The Green’s function in the r -space has been found by the numerical Fourier transformation of the Greens’s function found in the spectral representation. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear cavities positioned symmetrically beside the waveguide and coupled with each other. Using Green function theory we show three scenarios for the transmission. The first one inherits the linear case in which the light transmission preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario the symmetry is broken by the light intensities at the cavities. In the third scenario the intensities are equal but the phases of the complex amplitudes are different at the cavities. This results in a Josephson like current between the cavities. The model consideration agrees well with computations of the Poynting current in a photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two optical cavities filled with a Kerr material.

Аннотация: We consider a microcavity with degenerate dipole or hexapole eigenmodes. If the cavity is positioned between waveguides, degeneracy is lifted. However, we show that in a nonlinear microcavity the degeneracy is recovered at certain injected power. In application we consider a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and one defect made of Kerr media. We show that 100% efficiency channel dropping can be attained without a necessity to tune the resonant frequencies of the microcavity. В© 2013 Optical Society of America.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in 2D photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear defects positioned symmetrically aside the waveguide. We show that with growth of injected light power there is a breaking of symmetry by two ways. In the first way the symmetry is broken because of different light intensities at the defects. In the second way the intensities at the defects are equaled but phases of complex amplitudes are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the defects similar to the DC Josephson effect if the input power over the waveguide is applied and the defects are coupled. As application of these phenomena we consider the symmetry breaking for the light transmission in a T-shaped photonic waveguide with two nonlinear defects. We demonstrate as this phenomenon can be explored for all-optical switching of light transmission from the left output waveguide to the right one by application of input pulses. Finally we consider the symmetry breaking in the waveguide coupled with single defect presented however by two dipole modes.

Аннотация: Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a bound state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. The resonant anomalies of the Hall resistance are found in a weak magnetic field. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)00412-0].
