Аннотация: By use of coupled-mode theory we analyze a channel add-drop filter based on two dispersive waveguides symmetrically coupled with two resonant optical cavities. We show new solutions for the channel-drop filter processes compared to the solutions found by Manolatou et al (1999 IEEE J. Quantum Electron. 35 1322). For a special choice of the dispersion of the waveguides, we reveal a frequency region with sufficient total reflection.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear defects positioned symmetrically aside the waveguide. With the coupled mode theory, we show three scenarios for the transmission. The first one inherits the linear case and preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario, the symmetry is broken because of different light intensities at the defects. In the third scenario, the intensities at the defects are equal but phases of complex amplitudes are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the defects similar to the dc Josephson effect if the input power over the waveguide is applied and the defects are coupled. All of these phenomena agree well with computations based on an expansion of the electromagnetic field into optimally adapted photonic Wannier functions in a 2D photonic crystal.

Аннотация: We show that two nonlinear resonant cavities aligned between two parallel waveguides can support self-induced bound states in the continuum (BSCs). These BSCs are symmetrical relative to an inversion of the waveguides and to inversion of the transport axis. Due to this BSCs can drop an incident wave from one waveguide to another with very high efficiency. We show also that the frequency of the efficient channel dropping can be tuned by injecting power. All these results are in good agreement with numerical solutions of the Maxwell equations in a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and two defects made of a Kerr medium.     Ligth-induced breaking of symmetry in photonic crystal waveguides with nonlinear defects as a key for all-optical switching circuits / E. N. Bulgakov, A. F. Sadreev, K. N. Pichugin // Spontaneous symmetry breaking, self-trapping, and Josephson oscillations. - 2013. - P. 89-124. - (Progress in optical science and photonics ; Vol. 1), DOI 10.1007/10091_2011_1 . - ISSN 978-3-642
Аннотация: We consider light transmission in 2D photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear defects positioned symmetrically aside the waveguide. We show that with growth of injected light power there is a breaking of symmetry by two ways. In the first way the symmetry is broken because of different light intensities at the defects. In the second way the intensities at the defects are equaled but phases of complex amplitudes are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the defects similar to the DC Josephson effect if the input power over the waveguide is applied and the defects are coupled. As application of these phenomena we consider the symmetry breaking for the light transmission in a T-shaped photonic waveguide with two nonlinear defects. We demonstrate as this phenomenon can be explored for all-optical switching of light transmission from the left output waveguide to the right one by application of input pulses. Finally we consider the symmetry breaking in the waveguide coupled with single defect presented however by two dipole modes.

Conformal cosmology -- General relativity -- Hamiltonian dynamics -- Casimir energy
Аннотация: The Hamiltonian approach to the General Relativity is formulated as a joint nonlinear realization of conformal and affine symmetries by means of the Dirac scalar dilaton and the Maurer-Cartan forms. The dominance of the Casimir vacuum energy of physical fields provides a good description of the type Ia supernova luminosity distance-redshift relation. Introducing the uncertainty principle at the Planck's epoch within our model, we obtain the hierarchy of the Universe energy scales, which is supported by the observational data. We found that the invariance of the Maurer-Cartan forms with respect to the general coordinate transformation yields a single-component strong gravitational waves. The Hamiltonian dynamics of the model describes the effect of an intensive vacuum creation of gravitons and the minimal coupling scalar (Higgs) bosons in the Early Universe.

Аннотация: General Relativity rewritten in conformal units identifies conformal intervals with the real observational distances. This identification gives a base to explain all epochs of the Universe evolution including Ia supernova luminosity long distance-redshift relation by the dominance of the Casimir vacuum energy of all physical fields. A set of arguments is discussed in favor that SNe Ia data in the conformal units can be an evidence of the conformal twistor structure of the space-time as a nonlinear realization of the affine group, like the nonlinear realization of chiral symmetry and phenomenological Lagrangian is evidence of the quark structure of hadrons.

Аннотация: Energy spectra and transport properties of armchair nanotubes with curvature induced spin-orbit interaction are investigated thoroughly. The spin-orbit interaction consists of two terms: the first one preserves the spin symmetry in rotating frame, while the second one breaks it. It is found that the both terms are equally important: (i) at scattering on the potential step which mimics a long-range potential in the nanotubes; (ii) at transport via nanotube quantum dots. It is shown that an armchair nanotube with the first spin-orbit term works as an ideal spin-filter, while the second term produces a parasitic inductance.

Symmetry breaking in open quantum nonlinear systems / A. F.    Перевод заглавия: Нарушение симметрии в открытых квантовых нелинейных системах
Аннотация: We consider symmetry breaking in the simplest open quantum nonlinear systems such as dimer and plaquette of four nonlinear sites coupled with linear tight-binding wires. If the solution is stationary, the total Hilbert space can be projected into the inner states of the dimer or plaquette by the Feshbach procedure. That derives a nonlinear analogue of the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with injected wave as a source. By neglecting radiation shifts the Lippmann-Scwinger equation limits to the coupled mode theory equations widely used in optics. We show three scenarios for the transmission through the nonlinear quantum systems. The first one inherits the linear case and preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario the symmetry is broken because of different intensities at the dimer sites. In the third scenario the intensities at the sites are equaled but phases of complex wave function are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the nonlinear sites similar to the DC Josephson current. We show how the phenomenon of symmetry breaking can used for switching of outputs symmetrically coupled to the quantum dimer . Also we reveal a domain in the parameter space where none of stationary solutions exist. As a result injection of a monochromatic symmetric wave gives rise to emission of nonsymmetric satellite waves with energies different from the energy of the incident wave. Thus, the response exhibits non monochromatic behavior.

Аннотация: We study dynamical response of the nonlinear dimer relative to monochromatic wave injected via the waveguide. We show existence of a domain in space of frequency and injected amplitude where the stationary solutions of the time evolution equations do not exist. Аннотация: We study the dynamical response of two nonlinear microresonators coupled with a photonic crystal waveguide. We find a domain in the space of frequency and amplitude of the probing light where all stationary solutions are unstable. In this domain, scattered light carries multiple harmonics with equidistantly spaced frequencies [frequency comb (FC) effect]. Two identical resonators coupled with the waveguide support the symmetry-protected bound state in the continuum whose response is singular, as the amplitude of the injected wave tends to zero. As a result, the FC interval tends to zero when the amplitude of probing light diminishes, which paves the way for all-optical generation of waves with ultralow frequency. Аннотация: In the framework of the temporal coupled mode theory we consider bound states embedded in the continuum (BSC) of photonic crystal waveguide as a capacity for light storage. A symmetry protected BSC occurs in two off-channel microresonators positioned symmetrically relative to the waveguide. We demonstrate that the symmetry protected BSC captures a fraction of a light pulse due to the Kerr effect as the pulse passes by the microresonators. However the amount of captured light is found to be strongly sensitive to the parameters of the gaussian light pulse such as basic frequency, duration and intensity. In contrast to the above case the BSC resulted from a full destructive interference of two eigenmodes of a single microresonator accumulates a fixed amount of light dependent on the material parameters of the microresonator but independent of the light pulse. The BSCs in the Fabry-Perot resonator show similar effects. We also show that the accumulated light can be released by a secondary pulse. These phenomena pave a way for all-optical storage and release of light. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: We analyze spin scattering in ballistic transport of electrons through a ripple at a normal incidence of an electron flow. The model of a ripple consists of a curved graphene surface in the form of an arc of a circle connected from the left-hand and right-hand sides to two flat graphene sheets. At certain conditions the curvature-induced spin-orbit coupling creates a transparent window for incoming electrons with one spin polarization simultaneously with a backscattering of those with opposite polarization. This window is equally likely transparent for electrons with spin up and spin down that move in opposite directions. The spin-filtering effect that is small in one ripple becomes prominent with the increase of N consequently connected ripples that create a graphene sheet of the sinusoidal type. We present the analytical expressions for spin-up and spin-down transmission probabilities as a function of N connected ripples.

Аннотация: Creation of electrons or excitons by external fields in a system with initially statistically independent unrelaxed vibrational modes leads to an initial condition term. The contribution of this term in the time convolution generalized master-equation approach is studied in the second order of the perturbation theory in path-integral formalism. The developed approach, applied for the analysis of dynamics in the photosynthetic reaction center, exhibits the key role of the initial condition terms at the primary stage of electron transfer.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear cavities positioned symmetrically beside the waveguide and coupled with each other. Using Green function theory we show three scenarios for the transmission. The first one inherits the linear case in which the light transmission preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario the symmetry is broken by the light intensities at the cavities. In the third scenario the intensities are equal but the phases of the complex amplitudes are different at the cavities. This results in a Josephson like current between the cavities. The model consideration agrees well with computations of the Poynting current in a photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two optical cavities filled with a Kerr material.

Аннотация: We propose the construction of highly directional emission microlasers using two-dimensional high-index semiconductor waveguides as open resonators. The prototype waveguide is formed by two collinear leads connected to a cavity of certain shape. The proposed lasing mechanism requires that the shape of the cavity yield mixed chaotic ray dynamics so as to have the approplate (phase space) resonance islands. These islands allow, via Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, the appearance of quasibound states (QBSs) which, in turn, propitiate the lasing mechanism. The energy values of the QBSs are found through the solution of the Helmholtz equation. We use classical ray dynamics to predict the direction and intensity of the lasing produced by such open resonators for typical values of the index of refraction.

Аннотация: We study bound states of the two-dimensional Helmholtz equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in an open geometry given by two straight leads of the same width which cross at an angle theta. Such a four-terminal junction with a tunable theta can realized experimentally if a right-angle structure is filled by a ferrite. It is known that for theta=90degrees there is one proper bound state and one eigenvalue embedded in the continuum. We show that the number of eigenvalues becomes larger with increasing asymmetry and the bound-state energies are increasing as functions of theta in the interval (0,90degrees). Moreover, states which are sufficiently strongly bound exist in pairs with a small energy difference and opposite parities. Finally, we discuss how the bound states transform with increasing theta into quasibound states with a complex wave vector.

Аннотация: We study classical and quantum scattering properties of particles in the ballistic regime in two-dimensional chaotic billiards that are models of electron- or micro-waveguides. To this end we construct the purely classical counterparts of the scattering probability (SP) matrix \S(n,m)\(2) and Husimi distributions specializing to the case of mixed chaotic motion (incomplete horseshoe). Comparison between classical and quantum quantities allows us to discover the purely classical dynamical origin of certain general as well as particular features that appear in the quantum description of the system. On the other hand, at certain values of energy the tunneling of the wave function into classically forbidden regions produces striking differences between the classical and quantum quantities. A potential application of this phenomenon in the field of microlasers is discussed briefly. We also see the manifestation of whispering gallery orbits as a self-similar structure in the transmission part of the classical SP matrix.
